Lost Wolf 2003 Barossa Shiraz May 06

Another new brand that I know nothing about. It's a small family owned winery and according to the label it looks like they started making wine for their own enjoyment and then the project grew; the wine is made by Dan Standish. The bouquet is interesting; coconut, blackberry,  leather/earthy cherry notes and as it opened, some EA emerged. Tannins are very tight and sooth, providing a solid backbone and pleasant mouth feel.  The palate has loads of flavour intensity, is entirely off-sweet with blackberry liqueur, and charry coffee oak; there is a noticeable component which suggests some unripe fruit made the blend. A muscular wine that  would be improved by a steak, it needs time for the deeply seated fruit to absorbed the charry oak. At $28.50 it is rated as Recommended with *** for value its available by mail order and also exported to the US. Whilst it is not to my personal liking, I am sure that many people will love its intense flavour, and it does have a lot going for it.
