Longhop 2006 Old Vine Grenache June 07

The wine was hails from 50 year old vines grown in the Adelaide Plains and is sealed under screwcap. The bouquet is dominated by sweet, candies notes, perfumed musk lollies, and pine/smoky oak. Solidly backed by dusty tannins, the acid is fresh and the fruit pure. The palate is a surprise as it is less sweet than expected, with off-sweet nuances too; blackberry, milk chocolate and oregano. The length is great, especially for the price. Medium-weight with a supple mouth-feel, and harmonious, but simple complexity; its a very good food wine and the slight green herbal note does not detract. Rated as Agreeable with *** for vale. Leave in the cellar for a couple of years.
