Longhop 2005 Boomerang Shiraz May 06

The wine was matured in seasoned older oak but still exhibits plum, vanilla and cedar note and this is one of those rare cases where the palate is substantially different to the bouquet. The palate is ripe with abundant, intense, primarily off-sweet with a hint of sweetness below; strong blackberry, coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate and a touch of dried herbs, all finishing with good intensity but it is a tad short on the  back of the palate. A full-bodied wine, its texturally meaty and chewy but the tannins still are unobtrusive and smooth which makes it a fruit forward, very drinkable wine.  The wine is available at retail for about $15-16 or can be ordered direct for $156 a dozen including freight ($13 a bottle) and at the case price, its Rated as Recommended with ***** for value.
