Leasingham 2005 Bin 61 Shiraz Nov 08

This wine was tasted single blind in a line up of five Shiraz from the 2004 and 2005 vintage.

The bouquet was reticent and showed signs of dirt/earth, milk coffee essence, sweet, spiced oak and plummy fruit. It's primarily off-sweet but has limited sweet berry flavour too, as well as slightly sour, dark fruit characters. A medium-weight, firm, solid wine it needs time for the fruit to surface. The amount of powdery, drying tannins makes me wonder if the wine has sufficient fruit to carry it in the medium to longer term. Rated as Recommended (just made it) with *** for value, it is sealed under screwcap and should be in its peak drinking window between 2012 and 2017, providing there is enough fruit. It's sealed under screwcap.
