Leasingham 2002 Bin 61 Shiraz PlonkOz04

In the past, this has been a long time favourite wine that was purchased in most years and it normally cellared for 6-8 years and improved in that period but there has been a change in style at Leasingham and now, many of the wines are drink on release propositions. Whilst this will benefit the majority of buyers who purchase wine for immediate consumption, it is a retrograde step for those that like to cellar wine and don't want to drink easy drink, crowd pleasing wine with no great character. The nose is fruit driven with sweet berry fruit which flows across the palate with intensely sweet, very ripe flavours and bitter chocolate. Ample-weight, smooth tannins provide a supple consistency and the wine is harmonious; an easy drinking red that's ready to go, its rated as Recommended with *** for value.
