Leasingham Classic Clare 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon March 06

Bouquet of blackcurrant, spicy/smoky/chocolaty oak with menthol and mint leads to a palette of blackcurrant, plum, dark chocolate, aniseed mushroom and mint. Abundant blocky tannins are well matched too deeply-seated, powerful fruit and unobtrusive acid. It finishes with excellent length and persistence. It’s a big, full-bodied wine and the best under this label since 1992. Rated as Highly Recommended, if it matures as I would normally expect, the rating would improve in the next few years. However I have some caution as between 1993 and 1998 the wine has failed to live up to expectations.
