Lazy Ballerina 2004 Shiraz December 05

Looking for something a bit rare and unusual, this is it; only 150 cases of this wine have been made by James Hook at Redheads Studio.

The bouquet is dominated by a touch of lifted alcohol, smoky vanillin and coffee oak over brooding plum and chocolaty fruit. The wine is surprisingly elegant with loads of silky, chalky tannins which provide an excellent backbone and attractive mouth feel; tannins are well balanced by youthful acid and deeply seated fruit. Muscular-weight, this lovely little baby needs time for the tannins to integrate further and shows plum, raspberry, milk chocolate, coffee, and after some time in the glass, herbal notes on the reasonably persistent finish. A good combination of sweet and off-sweet flavours adds to its character. Rated as Highly Recommended with **** for value it is available from wine@eastendcellars.com.au
