Langanook 2004 Syrah Nov 06

It is sealed under screwcap and is available from Cloudwine for $29 by the single or $27 by the dozen. Even after hours in the decanter, the bouquet was still brooding but showed attractive, floral characters, plum, and cedar notes. A well crafted and perfectly balanced wine; tannins are unobtrusive, very tight and dusty and the fruit is pure and deep. Loads of coffee and mocha oak but it is controlled and there is enough plummy, blackberry fruit to absorb it. A modern, muscular-weight wine that is tight, has some subtlety, and finishes clean; it needs another four of five years in the bottle to gain further complexity, although with a long decanter, it is approachable now. Rated as Highly Recommended with **** for value (based on the dozen price.)
