Killerby 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon
At the last WA road show unfortunately I didn’t get the
opportunity to try the 99 Killerby Cabernet and when Ben Killerby saw my write
up did not contain a tasting note of the wine; he was generous enough to send
me a bottle. The reason it has taken me so long to review it, is one of my
staff members decided very kindly to ‘tidy up my office’ the day the wine
arrived and ‘filed’ the wine away and it was only by accident I discovered it.
The wine has a rich ripe bouquet that is typical of many
varietally correct cabernets; red fruit, cedar, tobacco and loads of wonderful
chocolate. Loads of dusty drying tannins, youthful balanced acid and well
matched deeply seated fruit combine to form a well constructed wine that will
last and improve for many years. Tobacco, pencil shaving, savoury berry fruit
and chocolate combine and mix through the palate to form a flavour profile
that’s a bit different. The length and persistence of finish are very good too.
Rated as Highly Recommended the rating
may improve as the wine reaches maturity in about 4 years, **** for value at $28 but it has been restricted to
one bottle per head direct from cellar door.
