Kells Creek 2002 Cabernet Merlot Oct 03

The wine initially showed a very restrained aroma and was locked up tight.  However as it opened up a clean varietally correct Cabernet Merlot was exposed. Very sweet upfront red berry fruit is a pleasant surprise which is well contrasted by the savoury tobacco and subtle chocolate flavours which have excellent persistency. This is a clean well made and well balanced wine that’s light in weight that has everything in the right proportion and is ready to be drunk now. A perfect summer food friendly wine that will also suit those that don’t like heavy reds, it’s Rated as Recommended with *** for value and it sells for $20 by the dozen at cellar door.
