Kay Bros 2006 Basket Press Shiraz Nov 08

The bouquet is deep, brooding and shows aniseed, a hint of menthol/mint, cough mixture and spice. Unobtrusive, smooth, dusty, drying tannins combine with crisp acid and strong fruit. It seems surprisingly light for this label but has loads of intensity for its weight. The very ripe fruit delivers aniseed, blackberry, plum, cedar, nutmeg and milk chocolate. The palate profile is dominated by black flavours. Medium-weight with a silky consistency, the wine needs to be decanted, but from my perspective it lacks vibrancy and is not up to the usual standard of this label. Rated as Recommended (just made it by a whisker) with *** for value, drink from 2011 to 2016.
