Kay Bros 2000 Block 6 Shiraz April 05

A brooding bouquet showing mulberry, caramel and clean washing basket characteristics. Blackberry, caramel, some toasty oak characteristics, coconut, liquorice and assorted other flavours combine to form an adequate level of complexity; but in all honesty, the wine still seems a reasonably tight and it looks like it needs a little more time. A muscular weight wine, it seems like it is relying on cunningly handled oak treatment for a lot of its flavour. Tannins have smoothed out nicely and have integrated well. This will never be a great wine, but it is a reasonable result for the vintage. Rated as Highly Recommended. As the wine opened up, it did seem to take on weight and complexity improved, on reflection, I don't think extra time will improve the wine and its drinking well now.
