Katnook 2001 Shiraz PlonkOz04

In the past, I haven't been a great fan of this wine but this one surprised me; pleasantly. The controlled char on the nose was not offensive with spice, very ripe fruit and peppery overtones below it. Tannins are smooth and unobtrusive and result in a supple consistency and solid structure. It is clean, well made, has an attractive mouth feel, is very drinkable and has a harmonious complexity so the term, "upmarket crowd pleaser" should come as no surprise. Spice, chocolate, dark berry fruit and plum dominate the palate. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, it is ready to drink now. A good result!
