Jones 2003 L.J. Shiraz
Aug 05
A brooding bouquet that seems to
make clever use of well-controlled oak; showing slightly floral perfumed fruit
together with spice and the hint of menthol, the bouquet is most attractive. I
love tasting a wine where as soon as it hits the tongue, the palate snaps to
attention and kicks the brain into gear, and that's exactly what this wine did.
It's a reasonably big wine; it sits in the mouth beautifully filling every nook
and cranny yet despite its power and persistence it shows refined class and a
touch of elegance. With excellent balance and construction, the ultra-fine
tannins support a long, persistent finish. Plum, spice, coffee and a hint of
eucalyptus provide excellent complexity that will only get better as the wine
ages. Whilst it's approachable now, it will definitely be better with another
five+ years in a deep dark hole. Rated as
Excellent with *** for value, don't
hesitate to buy this one.
