John's Blend 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon June 08 sells for around $32 and is sealed under cork. The bouquet shows sweet fruit, a slight medicinal note, loads of leafy characters and is truly varietal. An old-fashioned, traditional, thumpingly big, Australian Cabernet Sauvignon, there is nothing subtle about this wine. Abundant, chalky tannins dominate the deeply-seated, strong fruit and it needs time for the fruit to surface; assuming it does, and it should, it will be a very enjoyable drop. It's varietally correct with loads of savoury blackcurrant, leafy characters, and cigar box flavours that are nailed to the tannins and finish on a very-long, dry finish. It's full-bodied and tight. Rated as Highly Recommended with **** for value, drink from 2015 to 2030.
