John's Blend 2002
Margarete's Shiraz
April 05 05 05 05 05 05
The wine spent 28 months in American oak and despite that, this wine
exhibits a lot less oak than many of Glaetzer's previous blends. Although
the wine changed as the bouquet opened, its still remained tight and broody
but coffee, chocolate, plum, eucalyptus and mint together with earthy/flinty
notes were all evident in a changing sequence. A muscular-weight wine with
some elegance, it is well crafted and should be seamless in time. Ultra-fine
tannins provide a rock solid backing for the bucket loads of menthol, mint
and eucalyptus flavours that a pleasantly contrasted by plums, blackberry,
black chocolate, coconut, and zingy acid that finishes with good
persistence.
