JJ Hahn 1999 Nineteen Fourteen Shiraz Sept 04
A restrained bouquet showing ripe characters with off-sweet fruit and
some very interesting characteristics finishing to nose clearing menthol.
The palate
is as restrained as the bouquet suggests but there is a fair amount of smoky
oak derived flavour. Medium weight, the smooth tannins are unobtrusive but provide a perfect level of
backbone. The wine is also very clean. As the wine opened up, the red and blue
spectrum berry flavours
emerged and the complexity improved with chocolate, menthol and a hint of spice
and surfacing. A most enjoyable wine that went well with my “rack off lamb,” it
is Rated as Highly Recommended.
