Houghton 2001 Gladstone Shiraz PlonkOz04

Admittedly I didn't get a very good look at this wine so this should be regarded as an impression rather than full on tasting note. There is some pure, persistent, good-quality fruit in this wine and it also has a good mouth feel. On the palate it is ripe, off-sweet with vanilla and chocolate oak, and whilst the fruit seems almost delicate it has does have a good persistence, however there appears to be loads of oak tannin on the finish. Medium-weight, the consistency is firm but supple and it is very drinkable now but will be better with five years plus of ageing. The winning crowd pleaser, it is rated as Recommended with * for value.
