High Plains 2005 Durif Nov 08

This wine is one of the Sam Miranda wines from King Valley. It has a very reasonable RRP of $17 and is sealed under screwcap.

The bouquet shows a combination of savoury, spicy, plummy fruit together with sweet oak spices. Abundant, chewy, chalky tannins are well matched to the deeply-seated fruit and is lifted by piquant, almost tart acid. Its medium-weight and food friendly; that’s unusual for Durif. A simple, solid and firm wine, its good value but needs a little time; rated as Agreeable with **** for value, the rating will increase as it enters its peak drinking window between 2011 and 2016.
