Heritage 2005 Rossco’s Shiraz Jan 08

The bouquet is broody; plum, dusty oak, chocolate, coffee and liquorice are replaced on the palate together with dried herbs. The finish goes on longer than a Wagnerian Opera. Although there is a fair dollop of oak, there is enough fruit to sop it up. It’s currently tight, and dare I say it, almost elegant for a Barossa Shiraz; it certainly has some class too. Driven by pure, deep fruit and solidly backed by fine, tight and unobtrusive tannins, its shows beautiful fruit purity, refreshing acid and restrained balance. Steve Hoff’s wines just keep on getting better and better, and great value too. Rated as Excellent with **** for value. Sealed with a cork, it should hit its peak between 2013 and 2019.
