Heritage 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Jan 08

Loads of dusty oak with varietal cabernet characters, leafy notes and blueberry; the bouquet was expressive on opening but after a few hours shut down. That bodes well for the future. It’s a tight as Federer’s serve and as solid as his game. A muscular-weight wine with a supple consistency, its excellent structure is backed by fine and tight, dusty tannins. The palate is driven by pure, deep, strong fruit that delivers a perfectly varietal cabernet profile with blackcurrant, blackberry, liquorice and hints of spicy, cigar box. Flavours are intermingled sweet and off-sweet, and finish with good persistence and excellent length. A damn fine wine for the price, its Steve Hoff’s best Cabernet yet and rated as Highly Recommended with **** for value. Drink from 2012-17; sealed with a cork.
