Hazyblur 2004 Kangaroo Island Cabernet Sauvignon May 06

The bouquet was dominated by oak characters, pencil lead and wood with spice and fruit nuances below. Unobtrusive powdery tannins combine with fresh acid and pure distinct fruit to deliver a tightly-wound, mid-weight wine with a firm backbone, supple mouth feel and agreeable complexity. Palate flavours reflect the oak influence and cool climate origins, with intensely off-sweet flavours of spicy coffee oak, ripe green spectrum notes and cassis dominating the mid palate with pepper on the finish. The wine has good power for its weight. Rated as Recommended with **** for value at $21.50 by mail order, a few years in the cellar will see it loosen up and improve. My main concern with this label was the corks. The Shiraz was completely wet (all the way around) within a couple of mm of the top and the Cabernet was wet 3/4 of the way up.
