Hartz Barn Black Bead Sparkling FRS December 05

The front of the label says "Sparkling Wine." The brochure says "Sparkling Red" and the back of the bottle indicates its Shiraz; but no matter what you call it, in any language its good FRS.

There is a reasonable level of sweetness on the attack but praise the Lord, it's not sickly sweet or confected and the acid does a good job of cutting through it. Loads of very ripe blackberry/blackcurrant, leather, liquorice and a hint of herbs on the finish

provide good complexity. Full-bodied, there is a big mouthful of flavour that finishes with excellent persistence. If you want to be nitpicky, the bubble could be finer and the wine could be bit more subtle/refined, but its bloody gluggable and ready to drink now. Rated as Recommended with ** for value.
