Grapes of Ross 2006 Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon April 08 sells for $20 and is available from Squashedgrape and selected bottle stores; it is sealed under screwcap. The brooding bouquet shows earthy notes, and sweet and spicy fruit with an underlying hint of (not unattractive) dirty sock. Unobtrusive tannins combine with refreshing acid to form a wine that is just medium in weight, has a soft consistency, shows some elegance and has an uncomplicated level of complexity. Its savoury on the uptake with sour cherry, spice, milk chocolate, a herbal patch in the mid-palate and it finishes with a touch of bitter character. Rated as Agreeable with ** for value.
