Glen Eldon 2001 Barossa
Cabernet Aug 04
The grapes for this wine come from 40-year-old
Barossa vines and the wine was matured in a combination of French and American
Oak. Coffee from both ripe fruit and oak dominate the bouquet. A muscular-weight
wine that is well backed by abundant, drying tannins and obvious, distinct
fruit showing plums, coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon, blackberry, more coffee;
there is nothing sweet in the flavour profile, its not
simple either and the persistence of finish is very good. I was told the objective
was to let the fruit speak and use the oak to compliment the wine. This
objective has been met and despite the fact that it is a nice wine now, it
needs a couple of years to build some further complexity. Rated as Recommended with **** for value, the rating should
improve as the wine matures.
