Glen Eldon 2000 Shiraz Aug 04
Another new brand that I have not heard of
previously, however in this case there is a talented winemaker behind the label
Richard Sheedy, formerly the winemaker at
Elderton and his brother Andrew have got together to form Glen Eldon Wines. The
Barossa vineyards were planted in 1997 but they have a vineyard in the Eden Valley that has 25-year-old vines.
The bouquet shows lifted alcohol and sweet
fruit which produces a sweet uptake with a big hit of red berry fruit with both
off-sweet and savoury nuances which counter balance the
sweetness and whilst it is a bit short on the back palate, the persistence is
reasonable. Tannins are smooth, the acid lively which add to the distinct fruit
to form an ample-weight, supple wine with harmonious complexity that is easy
drinking but holds some interest. A good result for the vintage, it is rated as
Recommended with *** for value.
