Flaxman Wines Shhhh Cabernet Nov 08

It seems like a very funny name. Colin's wife had told him not to make any more wine, but when Colin found this parcel of Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, he couldn't resist. The result was thirty cases, and that shouldn't be too hard to keep under one's hat, that's provided you have a big head. I must admit, I am a fan of good Eden Valley Cabernet, so was looking forward to trying this wine.

It's a very youthful and demands time. The nose, to say the least is reticent, but it shows good varietal characters with sweet cassis fruit below. The fruit is to the fore, and it's lovely, combining well with unobtrusive tannins and equally unobtrusive acid, to form a medium-weight, solid, firm, and above all else, tight wine that has a well-developed complexity. Its savoury with cassis on the uptake moving to blackberry, dried herbs, and hints of cigar box, and mint flavours, all of which finish long. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, it should be in its peak drinking window between 2012 and 2018. Sealed under screwcap.
