Flaxman Wines 2006 Eden Valley Shiraz Nov 08

Only sixty dozen of this wine had been made. A tip, if you are going to commit vininfanticide on this wine, decant it for some hours, because unless it gets a large gulp of air, you not get the most from it.

The bouquet is serious with very dusty, slightly spicy oak dominating the sweet fruit, with mocha and mushroom notes below. A medium-weight, rock solid, tight wine with a supple consistency, the fine, unobtrusive tannins enables it to sit well on the palate. The quality fruit is well-balanced to the rest of the package. Blackcurrant, pepper, dark chocolate, and loads of dried herbs on the mid-palate lead to eucalyptus on the back palate, and the wine lingers nicely on good length tannins. It's savoury and obviously cool climate. From the Eden Valley and is food friendly and rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value; it should enter its peak drinking window between 2013 and 2019. Sealed under screwcap.
