Elderton 2006 Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon Nov 06

A single vineyard wine, this is the panicle of Elderton’s Cabernet grapes. The bouquet exudes pure varietal Cabernet characters with loads of dusty notes, cigar box, and sweet vanillin oak. The fruit is buried at present, but that's to be expected in a powerful, young, top shelf Cabernet. First class, pure, strong fruit is driving this wine which is solidly backed by unobtrusive, tight, fine tannins which surfs the palate like a wave crashing and dumping flavour into all parts of the mouth. The finish is long and intense. Blackcurrant, blackberry, mint, cedar cigar box and a hint of chocolate come together to form a well developed complexity in this solid, firm, ultra-tight, modern Australian wine. It's certainly not cheap but is worth it for special occasions. Rated as Excellent with *** for value, the rating has potential to improve as it enters its peak drinking window between 2014 and 2026. Sealed under screwcap.
