Eden Springs 2002 Barossa Shiraz Sept 03

A youthful intense fruit driven bouquet showing floral violet notes (plums and liquorice will probably be the long term result,) menthol and mint, chocolaty earth notes; all-in-all a deceptive nose as there is good complexity and although the fruit dominates its not simple or a fruit bomb.

The wine has beautiful construction and balance and it’s a perfect case of letting the fruit speak. It was been matured in both French and American oak but neither stand out. Tannins are ultra smooth, the acid youthful and the fruit purity beautiful. It’s ample in weight and almost seamless already, no doubt the long slow ripening is responsible for the great balance and well developed complexity.

On the palate there are waves of alternating sweet and savoury nuances mingling and surfing across the tongue (including plums, dark, almost bitter chocolate, pepper and multiple berry flavours) as the wine glides past the tonsils and brings a smile to my face.

Although it’s drinking well now, it has great potential to improve and it’s rated as (just) Highly Recommended with **** for value. This is seriously good value and you are crazy if you miss it! $19.90 a bottle direct from CD.
