Dukes 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon
Aug 04
This wine was very different to its predecessors and the
result of a difficult vintage. A light red, that was violet in colour and sealed
in Stelvin. The winemaker informed me it was doing very successfully in a number
of French restaurants in Perth that would be unlikely to take their wine when
vintage conditions return the wine to its normal weight. Body weight is lean,
the consistency is supple, and the structure elegant. Delicate fruit delivers a
spicy, off-sweet fruit with mint and herbaceous notes whilst the acid provides a
fresh crisp finish. Frankly I do not know what to make of it as I am not used to
drinking wines like this so I wont rate it.
Note, the winery now has a new winemaker, Mike Garland -
ex Plantagenet.
