Cadenza Grenache Oct 05
Sealed under Zork, the bouquet showed VA which did not blow off even after a few
hours in the glass; the bouquet was sweet but was dominated with spice and
savoury nuances with chocolate, and burnt/toasted oak. If you are looking for a
sweet Grenache, this is the furthest thing you will ever find to it. Noticeable
zingy fresh acid cuts through any fruit sweetness and was initially almost
jarring on the palate, but after a few hours it softened and became less
noticeable. Sour cherry, milk chocolate and raspberry finishes to a bitter
coffee flavour; this is one of those unusual cases with a bouquet that is
deceptive; as the palate shows almost no sweetness except for a little derived
from the alcohol. Medium-weight with a soft consistency and a simple complexity,
there are enough fine-grained tannins to hold the wine together and it would be
perfect with oily food. Rated as Agreeable with *** for value.
