D’Angelo 2005 R & R Cabernet Sauvignon May08 hails from Langhorne Creek and retails for around $28, and is sealed under screwcap. Sweet blackcurrant fruit over leathery spectrum mushroom oak characters dominate the bouquet. The wine is well-balanced with fine, unobtrusive tannins that provide a firm and solid backing for this ample-weight wine. It's off sweet on the uptake with sweet nuances intertwined. Blackberry, subtle black aniseed/iodine spectrum flavours with loads of tobacco are pleasant, but the mid-palate shows a noticeable sappy greenness which may come from young vines. It is approachable now but should improve. Rated as Recommended with *** for value. Give it a couple of years.
