D’Angelo 2005 Fugiastro Yarra Valley Pinot May08 retails for around $28 and is sealed under screwcap. The wine opened up with some reductive notes that this soon blew off to reveal unmistakable, varietal Pinot characteristics. It's completely savoury, with sour cherry on the uptake, a very sappy mid-palate, and black spectrum flavours that show a little bit of bitterness on the tail; the wine finishes clean and fresh and with respectable persistence. A lean, supple wine with a tight structure, the unobtrusive minimal tannins are possibly why it finishes short on the back palate. It needs a couple of years to show its true character and is rated as Agreeable with ** for value.
