Coldstream Hills 1990 Reserve Pinot Oct 04

A wine that is normally not available or sale or tasting, I was luck enough to be there when this wine was pulled out by the staff to see how it was traveling. The wine had been stored upside down so it was cloudy when poured. The colour was light poo brown and whilst the look may not have been attractive, the bouquet certainly was great with obvious aged Pinot characters but the big surprise was the youthful freshness of the fruit which still showed primary nuances. An interesting wine that is holding up extremely well, the acid was also still fresh and this wine is still a few years from reaching its peak. Savour, earthy mushroom characters with contrasting sweet strawberry, milk chocolate and cream, the finish is dry. Rated as Highly Recommended with room for improvement as the wine peaks.
