Cofield 2003 Sangiovese
April 04
Initially the bouquet showed savoury spice, raspberry and
smoky oak but over time in the glass, it changed to spice, almost white pepper,
raspberry, chocolate, earthy notes and a touch of menthol.
The wine is mid-weight with dusty tannins and pure fruit.
The flavour profile is attractive with dark, almost bitter chocolate on the
uptake, pleasant acid on the mid palate that counters the evident ripe tannins
and a sweet finish and a touch of spice. It has reasonable intensity for the
weight. The one draw back is the wine only goes through the first half of the
palate but it is food friendly and enjoyable. Rated as Agreeable with *** for
value.
