Chalice Bridge 2001 Cabernet Shiraz July 2003
Another Margaret River producer that is new to me. It’s
located 16k south east of the township and was established in 1998 by a group
of prive investors. Dusty oak and brooding sweet and savoury fruit in both the
red and black spectrum as well as coffee make this bouquet interesting and
reasonably complex. There is no great surprise to find complexity of flavours
flowing through the palate as well; chocolate, coffee, blackberry, spice, mint
etc. The wine is well built and well balanced but needs a year or two to show
its best. It’s a muscular weight fruit driven wine with very fine grained
drying tannins, refreshing acid and a long lingering finish which is extremely
Moorish. Rated as Recommended with *** for value,
this wine is well worth buying.
