Burge Family 2005 Olive Hill Aug 07

Meaty and earthy notes from the Mourvedre dominate the bouquet but there is some bright fruit there too. An excellent construction and balance is provided by the fine-grained, dusty tannins which are well matched to the deep, strong fruit and refreshing acid. An ample-weight wine that has been built in the European style, it has a supple consistency and a diverse complexity. The savoury flavour profile is attractive with black cherry, intense dark meaty flavours, blackberry, dark chocolate and hints of red fruit that fill the palate and linger well on the finish. Approachable now and certainly food friendly, it should improve with a few years in the bottle. Rated as Highly Recommended with **** for value, this is another winner.
