Burge Family 2005 Garnacha Aug 07

A dry-grown Grenache sealed under cork. Unusual coffee notes underpinning sweet fruit, with spicy, cedary notes. Deep below is a slightly unusual pong, and whilst it is hardly noticeable, it does waft in and out. Backed by fine, velvety, dusty tannins, this medium-weight wine with a supple consistency and solid structure also has a diverse complexity. Very sweet red berry fruit on the uptake with savoury chocolate on the mid-palate, there is a bitter, slightly green note to the finish. A well-crafted wine but the finish detracts from the presentation. Rated as Acceptable with ** for value.
