Burge Family 2005 Draycott Shiraz Aug 07

Hints of spicy fruit, oak spices, and brooding dark fruit notes, and vanilla are found on the bouquet. Superbly balanced with very-fine, tightly-grained dusty tannins that provide a firm, solid structure that is still tight; it is somewhat elegant for Barossa Shiraz. The pure fruit delivers a dry, black flavour profile but there is nothing overripe or pruney about it. It's off-sweet and has an unusual flavour profile that is dominated by pepper and mint flavours that finish clean and dry with very good persistence. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, the rating should improve as the wine matures around 2012.
