Burge Family 2005 D&OH Aug 07

A Shiraz Grenache blend is sealed under screwcap. Sweet jube characters dominate the bouquet, with a touch of spice (white pepper) below and milk chocolate. Fine, powdery tannins and fresh acid back this ample-weight, firm, solid and tight wine that has an agreeable complexity. The sweet, red berry fruit flavour is cut through by the fresh acid on the uptake, with an off-sweet and savoury mid-palate that tails off with black fruit and a dark chocolate on the finish. There is a slight bitterness to the finish but it does not detract. A solid, credible wine that appears boring now, but given time it should involve into something good. Currently rated as Recommended with *** for value; drink from 2010 and beyond by which time, hopefully the wine, and the rating will have improved.
