Burge Family 2004 D & O H January 2006

The wine is sealed under Stelvin. The bouquet is brooding, showing earthy notes, blackcurrant, menthol and peppermint. The palate is greeted by silky smooth, subtle dusty tannins but they are well judged and managed. Palate flavours of coffee, blackberry, plum, a touch of pepper, violets and the wine finishes with tarry liquorice. Whilst the wine is very quaffable and a good food wine, it is easy to drink but not a crowd-pleaser; it's better than that! Ample-weight, it builds slowly across the palate, filling the mouth with intense flavours and finishes with excellent power for its weight. Rated as Recommended with **** for value.
