Buller 2005 Valerie Bush Vine Grenache July 06

The bouquet shows lifted alcohol, (which is to be expected at 17%), smoky/spice/nutmeg oak, coffee, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. A full-bodied wine backed by smooth, almost silky tannins that produces a terrific, supple mouth-feel and adds to the wine’s harmony. Very sweet (but not NutraSweet or confected) strawberries and raspberries, rich chocolate and coffee, leading to dried herbs on the mid-palate, and a savoury, slightly peppery finish; the combination of sweet and savoury aspects is smart. Many critics would probably think that technically this is a mongrel of a wine, but it's a very fine looking one; harmoniously and slurpable, it's rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value based on its enjoyment factor.
