Buller 2005 Valerie Bush Vine Cinsaut July 06

An interesting bouquet showing milk chocolate, coffee, spices, white pepper, violets/perfumed soap, and after a few hours, mushroom and earthy characters started to emerge. Smooth, dusty tannins are brilliantly matched to fresh acid and pristine, deep fruit; it's well judged and put together. A full-bodied wine that in some ways is a dichotomy; at various stages of its evolution in the glass it almost appeared delicate, yet at others it's the complete opposite. Fresh and savoury on the uptake there is a little sweetness on the mid-palate but the wine finishes with fresh acid, making it ideal for food, and finishes with excellent persistence, lingering beautifully. A diverse flavour profile of pepper, chocolate, aniseed, cinnamon and meaty characters, certainly holds one's interest. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, as drinkable as this wine is now, it should be a whole lot better with another three years in the cellar.
