Avenue 2005 McLaren Vale Shiraz Nov 08

This wine was assessed blind.

The bouquet seemed reasonably flat with coffee and sweet vanillin oak notes, and showed hints of oxidative handling. It’s a well-balanced wine that is backed by fine, powdery tannins, fresh acid and distinct fruit. On the palate, the abundant sweet, plummy fruit moves into savoury coffee oak, blackberry, aniseed, mint, and a hint of dried green herbs; the finish has both reasonable length and persistence. An ample-weight, firm, solid wine with an agreeable complexity, the flavour profile whilst primarily black, has not been overdone. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, drink from 2010 to 2015; the wine is sealed under screwcap and has an RRP of $20.
