Avenue 2005 Clare Shiraz Nov 08

This wine was assessed blind.

The strong bouquet showed very sweet fruit notes with contrasting off-sweet spices, cedary oak and vanilla. Loads of mint/spearmint was also evident. A very drinkable wine that is backed by fine, unobtrusive tannins and fresh acid; they come together to produce a good mouth-feel, and a well-balanced wine. Plum, cherry, and dark chocolate starts off sweet and turns off-sweet on the mid-palate, and then moves into toasted oak; the finish is respectable in both length and persistence. A medium-weight, firm, solid wine with an agreeable complexity it's Rated as Recommended with **** for value. Sealed under screwcap, it has an RRP of $20.
