Aquila 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon
July 2003
The nose of this wine shows some meaty funky notes but below
that good berry fruit is found with some pine/cedary oak and coffee aromas. The
funky notes which many people may think adds complexity lessened as the wine
opened up but never totally dissipated. The first thought that comes to mind
when judging the structure is harmonious; this wine is well built with
everything in the correct proportion and balance. It’s a tad over mid weight
and varietally correct showing warm savoury cherry and other berry fruit,
tobacco/tomato leaf flavours and a hint of chocolate and coffee which finishes
with drying tannins. The wine drinks well now but will improve in the short
term. A very pleasant drop and rated as Recommended with
*** for value.
