Parker Dinner

The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) at Greystone has announced the wines to be poured at “Great Syrahs from Around the World,” the opening event of the weekend-long Wine Advocate 25th Anniversary Celebration. Robert M. Parker Jr. will lead this tasting:

Guigal La Landonne 1999,
Chave Hermitage 1999,
Chapoutier Hermitage Pavillion 1999,
Clape Cornas “Reynard Vineyard” 2001,
Delille “Doyenne” Syrah 2002,
Shafer “Relentless” Syrah 2001,
Alban “Lorraine” Syrah 2002,
Ojai “Roll Ranch” Syrah 2001,
Edmunds St. John “Basetti Vineyard” Syrah 2001,
Jasper Hill “Georgia’s Paddock” Shiraz 2002,
Torbreck “Run Rig” Shiraz 2001 or 2002,
D’Arenberg “Dead Arm” Shiraz 2002,
Clarendon Hills “Hickinbotham” Shiraz 2001 or 2002,
Killikanoon “Oracle” Shiraz 2002,
Hardy’s “Eileen Hardy” Shiraz 2001.

The seminar is limited to 125 guests and will be held in the CIA’s Ecolab Theater on Friday, October 22nd at 11 a.m. Tickets cost $500 per person.

These wines were chosen by Mr Parker, presumably as his favourites. Note that of the fourteen, six are Australian, with five of those being from South Australia.

A couple of points come to mind, firstly noticeable by its absence is Grange which may raise a few eyebrows. The Oracle has done well to be in such august company. Finally it is interesting to see the inclusion of the 02 Dead Arm. If it is so good, why hasn't the score come out yet?

Finally, my thanks to Nathan Waks of Killikanoon for proving much of the input for this short article.
