Wirra Wirra's Woes
(12 March)
My thanks to James Hooks of Lazy Ballerina and other people for sending these
photos.
On 7th March at approximately 12.30 pm a fermenting tower collapsed at the
well-regarded Wirra Wirra Winery in McLaren Vale. Seven workers
were on the platform at the time, but luckily the injuries were most minor,
however one cellar hand suffered a punctured lung and some broken ribs. The
current estimate was that somewhere between 250,000 and 400,000 litres of wine
was lost; most of it red. The pictures show that someone's guardian angle was
working overtime.
