The Sat Nav GPS Winery Project
Victorian wine lover Dan Sawyer
dreamed up this project
when he bought a "TomTom” Satellite Navigation thingamajigie and has
been loading it with “Points of Interest” or POIs. Being a fellow
wine tragic, Dan's main Points of Interest are naturally enough wineries, so
he has loaded the little PC with winery location information on
Mornington, Geelong, Yarra Valley, Rutherglen etc etc.
Dan has sent me the the files he has created to date. He and a friend are continuing to log other wineries, but as they are both Melbourne-based they will do Victoria. They will then do the parts of SA that they know where they possess accurate street/winery maps. The rest of Australia is an on-going project that Dan hopes others from around Oz contribute to.
I am happy to host the files on my site so that they will be available to everyone. Also, as there are new wineries popping up all the time, users who have the devices can always update what was the latest version, send them to me and I will upload them. A community project for those those with Sat Nav where you can all benefit.
To download, click any of the following files (they are .ov2 unless otherwise specified) -
For those that don't know it, here is what the maps look like.
MapQuest is a part of Google http://www.mapquest.com/ and they have a free tool which will also plot the POI files.
